How to Get the Most Out of Your Infusion Therapy
A Patient Guide from Specialty Infusion Center by Access Infusion Care
At Specialty Infusion Center by Access Infusion Care, every detail of your visit is designed around comfort, safety, and personalized support. Whether this is your first infusion or your fiftieth, there are simple ways to enhance your experience and help your therapy work its best for you. With the right preparation and mindset, infusion day can become something you look forward to—an important step toward better health and better living.
Here’s how to get the most out of your infusion therapy at our centers:
1. Hydrate & Nourish Before Your Appointment
Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water the day before and the morning of your infusion can:
- Make IV placement smoother
- Reduce fatigue and post-infusion headaches
- Help your body process medication effectively
Eat a Light Meal
A balanced snack or meal before you arrive can help keep your energy stable and prevent nausea.
2. Dress Comfortably to Enhance Your Experience
Our infusion suites are equipped with reclining chairs and cozy amenities, but wearing comfortable layers helps you feel extra relaxed.
Choose clothing that allows:
- Easy access to your arm and/or infusion site
- Warmth—rooms can feel cool during longer sessions
Many patients bring:
- A soft blanket
- Warm socks
- A neck or back pillow
We want you to feel completely at ease from the moment you sit down.
3. Bring Activities That Make Time Enjoyable
Depending on your treatment, appointments may range from 30 minutes to several hours. Turn this into time that feels restorative.
Great infusion-time activities include:
- Music or headphones
- Streaming your favorite shows
- A good book
- Work or school tasks if you feel up to it
- Journaling, meditation, or quiet rest
Many patients say infusion day becomes a peaceful break from their busy routine.
4. Track Your Symptoms to Support Personalized Care
One of the best ways to maximize your treatment is by keeping a simple symptom or wellness journal.
Note things like:
- How you feel before & after therapy
- Any side effects
- Energy or pain levels
- Changes between visits
Sharing this with our clinical team helps us personalize your care and adjust medications or comfort measures as needed.
5. Communicate Openly With Your Infusion Team
Our nurses and providers are here to support you every step of the way. Please speak up if:
- You notice new or changing symptoms
- You experienced side effects after your last infusion
- You’re feeling anxious or unsure
- You need extra comfort measures
Your comfort, safety, and confidence are always our priority.
6. Take Pre-Medications as Prescribed
Some infusion therapies require pre-medications to prevent reactions and keep your treatment running smoothly. Taking them exactly as directed can:
- Reduce infusion-related side effects
- Prevent delays
- Improve your overall experience
If you're unsure when or how to take them, our team is always happy to help.
7. Plan for Rest & Self-Care Afterwards
After your infusion, give your body time to relax and recharge. Even if you feel fine during treatment, it’s normal to feel tired afterward.
Helpful post-infusion habits include:
- Drinking extra water
- Eating a nourishing meal
- Taking a short nap
- Keeping plans light for the rest of the day
Recovery is part of the therapy process—listen to your body.
8. Celebrate Your Progress & Listen to Your Body
Patients often see gradual improvements over time. Focus on the small wins:
- A little less pain
- More energy
- Better sleep
- Improved mobility or daily function

The Benefits of Private Infusion Suites and Home Infusion Therapy
For patients who need ongoing IV treatments or specialty medications, deciding where to receive care is an important choice, especially if there isn’t a hospital or infusion center in your community. Specialty Infusion Center (SIC) aims to support patients in underserved markets with our care team, infusion suites and home infusion therapy. While hospital infusion centers have been the traditional option, patients have the choice to visit infusion suites or request home infusion therapy as appropriate.
Infusion Suites offer:
1. Comfort and Convenience
Our infusion suites are designed to feel calm and welcoming, offering reclining chairs, Wi-Fi, and quiet environments that make long infusions easier to manage. Home infusion therapy takes comfort even further, allowing patients to stay in familiar surroundings without the hassle of travel.
2. Lower Costs
Patients can often encounter higher facility fees for infusion therapy, driving up costs for patients and payers. Private infusion suites and home infusion services usually have lower overhead, making treatments more affordable without sacrificing quality or safety. At Specialty Infusion Center, we help lead the coordination of care process with insurance companies and providers for our patients to ensure a seamless experience.
3. Shorter Wait Times
Outpatient infusion centers and home therapy programs typically provide flexible scheduling and minimal wait times, helping patients save time and avoid unnecessary stress.
4. Safety with Personalized Care
Both home infusion therapy and infusion suites provide attentive, personalized care. Skilled infusion nurses monitor patients, answer questions, and adjust treatments as needed.
Private infusion centers balance hospital-level safety with individualized attention, and home therapy offers nurse-directed care in a private setting.
5. Reduced Exposure to Infections
Private infusion clinics and home infusion care significantly reduce the risks of weakened immune systems by providing treatment in controlled, lower-traffic environments.
The Best Infusion Setting for Today’s Patients
When deciding on private infusion suites or home infusion therapy, the benefits are clear.
Patients gain:
- Comfort and convenience
- Lower out-of-pocket costs
- Reduced infection risks
- Personalized, nurse-led care
For many, private infusion centers and home infusion services offer the perfect balance of safety, comfort, and affordability. Patients have a choice in where they receive infusion therapy, so we encourage you to select the environment that supports your comfort and well-being.

Colton’s OCYLP Fair Adventure
9/3/2025
For 12-year-old Colton, the Otsego County Youth Livestock Program (OCYLP) is more than just raising animals — it’s about hard work, new experiences, and having a lot of fun along the way.
This year, Colton juggled two animals: his lamb, Vinny (named after Vin Diesel from Fast & Furious), and his pig, Ivy. When Ivy first joined the family in March, she weighed only 65 pounds. By the time the fair rolled around, she had grown to 265 pounds — thanks to months of careful feeding, daily care, and training. Colton even brushed and oiled her skin regularly to make sure she was show-ready. The work wasn’t always easy, especially during the ice storm that made caring for Ivy a challenge, but Colton took it in stride.
The name “Ivy” wasn’t chosen at random. It was a family idea tied to their sponsor, with “Ivy” standing for “IV,” an important part of infusion care. The name stuck — and turned out to be a perfect fit for the spirited pig.
But Colton’s fair days weren’t spent only in the barn. He also pitched in with the horse show, helped with barn duty to keep animals and visitors safe, and found time to enjoy other parts of the fair. His personal favorite this year? The bird exhibit — a spot he loved visiting whenever he wasn’t busy with his own animals.
Colton has been part of OCYLP for four years, starting in the novice class before moving up to junior. When he turns 15, he’ll join the senior class and can keep participating until he graduates high school. It’s an experience that teaches responsibility and discipline while also building friendships and memories.
As for the future, Colton has big plans for the money he raises through the sale of his animals. College or trade school savings come first, but he’s also saving for a car, his next round of animals, and — in true 12-year-old fashion — some fishing gear and a few video games.
Show day this year took place on August 19th. Colton proudly showed Ivy in the ring. While she didn’t place, he said she was “high spirited and sassy” — and the experience was still a highlight of his fair week.
At Specialty Infusion Center, we love seeing programs like OCYLP thrive because they reflect the same values we hold close: commitment, responsibility, and community. Supporting local youth like Colton isn’t just about fair season — it’s about investing in the future of our neighbors. As a local center, we’re proud to be connected to families right here in our community and to celebrate the hard work that makes events like the county fair so special.
A big shout-out to Colton and his family — especially his mom, one of our amazing infusion nurses at Specialty Infusion Center. We’re proud to cheer him on, both in the barn and beyond!
From Access to Impact: A Scalable Model for Rural Health Transformation
7/18/2025
In the national conversation about rural healthcare, a common assumption persists, just bringing services closer to home is enough. At Access Infusion Care, we know it’s not that simple. While proximity to care matters, true impact in rural healthcare requires trust, continuity, and an understanding of the social determinants of health that shape long-term outcomes.
Over the last decade, rural America has experienced hospital closures, clinician shortages, and worsening disparities in access to specialty care. Many rural patients face long travel distances just to receive essential specialty infusion therapy. Others forgo treatment altogether due to time, cost, or lack of local support. But even the best treatment plan won’t succeed if the patient can’t or won’t access it.
That’s why Access was built differently.
We don’t just provide care. We embed it in the community. By hiring local nurses, supporting regional providers, and partnering with manufacturers and payers, we create a care model that’s personalized, trusted, and designed for long-term success. We locate our centers based on real-time data and community needs. And our teams are members of the very communities they serve, not outsiders rotating in.
The impact is real: shorter delays to treatment, better adherence, and fewer costly complications. But beyond clinical outcomes, we also strengthen the fabric of the communities we serve, offering health education, participating in local events, and investing in underserved regions where others won’t.
Long before federal funding was allocated to rural healthcare transformation, Access was already bringing innovative care models to hard-to-reach communities, not because it was a policy mandate, but because it’s our mission. As the government is set to invest $50 billion over five years into rural health transformation, the Access model stands as a proven, scalable approach that provides care in the lowest-cost settings. By combining locally grounded care with centralized support, we close gaps in access through holistic, patient-centered services that reflect the needs of the communities we serve.
Access delivers:
- Infusion care in the communities where patients live, reducing long travel times and treatment delays.
- Collaborative partnerships with local providers, payers, and manufacturers to support continuity and adherence.
- Lower-cost care settings that reduce financial burden and optimize healthcare resource utilization.
- Holistic engagement through community events, local hiring, and education that builds trust and improves outcomes.
- Scalable infrastructure that meets the growing need for specialty infusion therapy without sacrificing personal care.
Access doesn’t just make care possible; we make it personal. And in rural health, that makes all the difference.
